Job ID JR100817 Date posted 02/19/2024The Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Science Division has a very strong tradition of research into strongly correlated materials using several experiment techniques including x-ray scattering, neutron scattering, and photoelectron spectroscopy, etc. This is complemented by excellent sample synthesis capabilities and strong theoretical support.
The Condensed Matter Theory Group within the Division focuses on band structure theory, tensor-network models and DMRG, analytical methods for low dimensional systems, and on other aspects of strongly correlated physics. The successful candidate will collaborate both with other members of the Theory Group and with the experimental efforts within the Division.
The successful candidate will join the Condensed Matter Theory (CMT) Group in the Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Science Division. The Division consists of an interdisciplinary and distinguished team of scientists devoted to the theoretical understanding, discovery, synthesis, and advanced characterization of correlated and topological quantum materials.
Essential Duties:
- Aid in developing the scientific directions of the CMT program;
- Advance the state-of-the art in theoretical techniques as applied to correlated and topological quantum materials;
- Conduct impactful research aligned with the Division’s strategic directions;
- Conduct synergistic research with members of both the CMT group and other scientists in the division;
- Aid in overseeing the group’s postdocs;
- Work collegially with the leaders in the Division to fulfill its mission.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- PhD in physics, materials science, chemistry, or related field
- Experience in theoretical condensed matter physics of at least six years after completion of PhD degree
- Outstanding record of scientific achievements
- Excellent communications, interpersonal and team-building skills
- Collaborative approach to research
- Experience in managing a thriving research group

The full salary range for this position is $110850 - $184000 /year. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
