In addition, the manager is responsible for various Engineering related functions including: system analysis of department computer systems (Maximo); conducting analysis on warehouse improvement processes including developing, implementation and monitoring operations and maintenance for a large industrial complex; performing return on investment (ROI) calculations related to established business improvements; analyzing and recommending substitution alternatives for inventory material from an engineering perspective, including making comparable alternatives based upon technical specifications and necessary user needs; and lastly providing engineering guidance on items received (accelerometers, handling and environmental issues, etc.).Warehouse operations is responsible for one central warehouse and five satellite areas. The position supports BNL’s approximately 3,000 staff members plus guests. Responsible for receipt, security, handling, and distribution of over $200 million of material/equipment across the Lab.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager, Production Division (F&O), the Manager, Warehouse Operations is responsible for managing the function and staff of Warehouse operations in support of the following:

Various Engineering related functions including: system analysis of department computer systems (Maximo); conducting analysis on warehouse improvement processes including developing, implementation and monitoring operations and maintenance for a large industrial complex; performing return on investment (ROI) calculations related to established business improvements
Analyzing and recommending substitution alternatives for inventory material from an engineering perspective, including making comparable alternatives based upon technical specifications and necessary user needs; and lastly providing engineering guidance on items received (accelerometers, handling and environmental issues, etc.).

Responsible for receipt, security, handling, and distribution of over $200 million of material/equipment across the Lab.
Provide engineering guidance on items received (e.g., analysis of accelerometers, impact of handling issues, etc.) .
Ensuring customer satisfaction for services provided to BNL staff, guests, and visitors.
Staff training, development and motivation.
Implementation of DOE contractual requirements with respect to provided services.
Ensuring compliance with lab and F&O policies, procedures and initiatives (e.g., Nuclear program, Export improvements, etc.).
Strategic planning to meet the Lab’s upcoming needs, such as the EIC, including the evaluation of new technologies such as RFID scanning.
Ensuring safe and efficient operations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and a minimum of 6 years related technical/ field of discipline experience, including at least a minimum of 2 years demonstrated leadership experience for a team, project or program.
Ability to perform system analysis of computerized systems (e.g., Maximo) supporting warehouse operations and their interrelationship to other lab computerized systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Workday).
Ablility to perform analytics of warehouse processes to improve their efficiencies.
Ability to develop, implement, monitor and improve operations and maintenance processes for a large industrial complex.
Ability to perform return on investment calculations to evaluate business improvements.
Ability to develop and implement clear, measurable performance and improvement goals, demonstrating an openness to change and a passion for continuous improvement.
Ability to analyze substitution alternatives for inventory material from an engineering perspective (e.g., compare technical specifications between alternatives and converse with end user).
Experience planning and executing work as well as protecting workers’ safety and health, and providing leadership for environmental, safety and health activities in the organization.
A broad knowledge of warehouse operations (e.g., receiving, inventory, shipping, deliveries).
Excellent skills in oral and written communication, budgeting, as well as presentation, interpersonal and coordination skills.
Developing staff capability to meet future needs, maintaining an appropriately trained and motivated staff, and supporting their long-term professional development.
Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel).
Proven ability to effectively apply risk management principles in facility related decisions.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Master’s degree in an engineering discipline.
Experience working with bargaining and non-bargaining unit staff members.
Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements:
Must be able to complete tasks repeatedly
Must have ability to view color, depth perception and hearing
Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. The full salary range for this position is $121600 - $201850 / year. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
