Scrum Master
Job ID JR101887 Date posted 06/18/2025Reporting to the ITD Applications department manager, this position works with multiple software development teams, which support a portfolio of local and cloud-based applications, and related integrations. They will work with their peers and senior ITD leadership to drive application strategy and execution, overseeing projects through completion. They work in close collaboration with business partners and application stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain a continuous learning mindset while guiding the team in applying Agile thinking to improve effectiveness and deliver quality software.
- Serve as a servant leader and coach for one or more Scrum Teams.
- Facilitate meetings including Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.
- Work closely with laboratory customers (i.e. Product Owners) to ensure the product backlog is well-groomed and prioritized.
- Track and report on key Agile metrics (e.g., burn-down, velocity) to help the team understand performance.
- Continually improve work procedures and processes for the group.
- Collaborate with the ITD department manager, group managers, and individuals to improve Agile practices across the organization.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- BA/BS Degree or equivalent experience, preferably in Computer Science, information Science or related discipline
- Eight (8) years of relevant experience
- Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe
- Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or similar
- Working knowledge of most of the following technologies: ASP.NET MVC, ASP.NET Core, Entity Framework, IIS, Git
- Working knowledge of CI/CD concepts and tooling
- Working knowledge of relational databases including Oracle and MS SQL Server
- Ability to manage stakeholder and partner relationships, including consulting with internal departments to identify tactical and strategic needs
- Skilled in problem solving and decision making
- Ability to work effectively independently or as a team member
- Professional presence and proven track record of building and maintaining relationships
- Ability to keep current of emerging technologies, best practices, and lessons learned
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM), or equivalent Agile certification
- Experience with Azure DevOps
- Experience with cloud-first architecture
- Experience developing and communicating strategic direction, both functional and technical

Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. The full salary range for this position is $120000 - $200050 / year. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
