Led by the Chief Financial Officer, Brookhaven’s Business Services Directorate includes the Budget Office, Fiscal Services Division, Procurement & Property Management Division, Chief Financial Office, and the Business Operations Offices. The Directorate manages a broad range of financial activities, including the planning and implementation of the Lab’s fiscal matters and its approximately $800 million annual budget.
The mission of the Procurement and Property Management (PPM) Division is to provide support for purchasing services, materials, equipment and supplies for Brookhaven National Laboratory operations and programs. The Procurement and Property Management Division does the following:
Provides internal customers with quality products and services in a timely manner at the lowest cost of ownership, i.e., “best value” using best commercial practices.
Supports the Laboratory’s socioeconomic programs by using reliable small, small disadvantaged, women-owned, service- disabled veteran owned and HUB (historically underutilized business) Zone businesses.
Ensures that acquisitions are conducted in compliance with BSA’s Prime Contract, applicable statutes and regulations, and in accordance with the highest ethics and standards.
Oversight of BNL Property Management Program to effectively track and account for BNL assigned Government Property.

Brookhaven National Laboratory’s Business Service Directorate (PR) Division seeks a Property Specialist. The Business Services Directorate provides high-quality business services to support the Laboratory's research initiatives by participating in cross-functional teams with a focus on risk mitigation and cost management critical components to the Lab's success. This position reports to the Property Warehouse Supervisor. The hours of operation/shift for this position are Monday- Friday 8am to 4:30pm.
Position Description
Under general supervision, the Property Specialist is responsible for providing support to the Property Management Section of the Procurement and Property Management Division. Carries out the established policies for the identification, tagging and control of the Laboratory's accountable assets. Assists Department/Division personnel in problem resolution and guidance in property matters. Conducts the biennial physical inventory of the controlled property. Assists the Property Manager in conducting walkthrough inspections as well as problem resolution. Responsible for receipt and classification of excess/surplus property generated by Laboratory organizations. Assists in the control of scrap disposals, sales and donation of property.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Completing purchase orders and tagging equipment
Receiving EMR’s and completing EMR’s
Opening the scrap yard
Email and coordinate with custodians for inventory verification
Completing annual inventory verification
Verifying Mission Movements and Loans return
Destroying and coordinating the destruction of high-risk equipment and retirement.
It is understood that the above list of duties is not all inclusive of every duty performed by this position but does include the major elements in the job.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
High School or GED, or higher
Must possess a valid NYS driver's license
2 years’ experience with inventory management
General understanding and use of Microsoft Office Suite
The candidate must be able to work Monday- Friday 8am to 4:30pm
Detail oriented and excellent communication skills
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Can effectively collaborate with others
Preferred Qualification
Proficient with Microsoft
Trained Forklift Operator
Knowledgeable of DOE Property Management Regulations
Other Requirements
Must meet the medical requirements of the “Job Assessment Form"
Must have a telephone and must provide the number to BNL for callout and contact purposes
Must possess written and verbal skills.
Must be capable of following written instruction procedures, work orders, and similar documents.
Must possess the writing skills to sufficiently complete work orders and other required documents
Must be able to communicate verbally with customers, fellow workers, and supervisors
Must be able to complete all the requirements of the Job Training Assessment
Environmental, Health, and Safety Requirement:
Standing, Bending, Moderate (under 30 lbs.) to Sometimes Heavy (over 30 pounds) lifting
Must wear Personal Protective Equipment/Clothing (PPE) (i.e. shoes, glasses, hardhat, hearing protection)
Will work in heat stress environment or cool temperatures below 60ºF
Computer/keyboard work
Ability to wear proper PPE such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection
Use of powered operated hand tools.
Operate a forklift
