Scientists in Brookhaven’s Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Science Division (CMPMSD) study basic and applied aspects of quantum materials and their utilization. The CMPMSD at Brookhaven National Laboratory seeks applicants for a research associate position with the goal of establishing a new effort in the development, understanding, and characterization of thin film quantum materials for the next generation of microelectronics and quantum information science and technology.

Brookhaven National Laboratory and the Energy and Photon Sciences Directorate are committed to your success. We offer a supportive work environment and the resources necessary for you to succeed.

Position Description

We are looking for a postdoctoral research associate to grow high quality thin films of quantum materials and heterostructures and study them with transport and advanced microscopic methods. These experiments will be integrated in a dynamic team environment, including collaboration with theorists, machine learning experts, and other experimentalists.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Pulsed laser deposition (PLD) of quantum materials and other thin film growth methods
  • Performing transport and electron microscopy experiments on thin films and heterostructures and analyzing and interpreting the results
  • Reporting the scientific results in academic papers and talks

  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of scientists and technical staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to disseminate research results by writing manuscripts and giving academic presentations.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with topological quantum materials synthesis and characterizations
  • Additional experience with MOD and CVD growth of thin films
  • Synchrotron based materials characterizations

Other Information:
