Multi-Trade Supervisor - Plumbing

BNL Facilities and Operations Directorate is hiring a Supervisor, Multi-Trade, Plumbing. The successful candidate will serve as the first-line supervisor for the Plumbing Shop and Insulation Shop within the Production Division of the FOC Directorate. This position is responsible for overseeing daily operations and ensuring that assigned staff perform their duties safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established standards. This role reports directly to the Mechanical Group General Supervisor within the Production Division.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating and directing the work of personnel, which involves assigning tasks, scheduling, providing technical guidance, and managing grievance procedures
  • The supervisor will work closely with Facilities and Operations personnel, other craft supervisors, and Points of Contact across divisions and departments to plan, track, and complete work orders effectively
  • First-line supervision of plumbing and insulation workers
  • Plans, coordinates, directs and reviews the work of assigned staff. Direction of work includes assignment, scheduling, training, technical direction, grievance handling and disciplinary actions
  • Works closely in a team environment and coordinates with other craft supervision, engineers, and department coordinators on work planning, tracking, and completion of work orders
  • Provides technical assistance and information on work of the unit to Laboratory customers, staff and other supervisors

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum (10) years related experience in the applicable construction and maintenance trades
  • Commercial or industrial plumbing experience in required
  • Must have prior leadership or supervisory experience
  • Experience coordinating and directing multi-trade projects
  • Experience coordinating and directing the work of staff, including assignments and scheduling
  • Ability to plan work, including estimating time and materials for a job
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Prior experience with Fire sprinkler systems
  • Demonstrated leadership in safety values and ability to impart values to staff.
  • Ability to understand what drives priorities and basic financial management (managing priorities, budgets and costs).
  • Experience in supervising or coordinating work with bargaining unit staff, including grievance handling.
  • OSHA construction safety training (30 or 40-hour certification).
  • New York State Department of Health backflow testing license.
  • Experience using a maintenance management system or CMMS program to issue and track work orders.
  • Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Familiarity with New York State Department of Health Asbestos Safety Training

Environmental, Safety, and Health, Considerations:

  • Standing, bending, and lifting, up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to climb fixed and portable ladders and work at heights up to 10 feet.
  • Work outdoors/cold environments.
  • Work in warm environments.
  • Ability to wear proper PPE such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection.
  • Domestic travel may be required on occasion for training purposes.
  • Use of private car may be required at certain times.

Other Information:

  • Monday through Friday 8am-4:30pm: Must be available after hours and/or weekends to meet project deadlines or requirements.
  • Valid Driver’s license.
  • This is a fully onsite position located at BNL – Upton, NY

Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. The full salary range for this position is $97850 - $151650 / year. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
