Electrical Engineer

Position Description:

An electrical engineer is needed to supply EEG resource to design, troubleshoot and maintain precision electrical systems used in particle accelerator applications. These systems use very complex analog and digital systems. The selected candidate will also learn these types of systems by helping to develop a next generation of electrical systems for NSLS II or other facilities.

The selected candidate will report to the head of the Electrical Engineering Group.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering and minimum of 3 years of experience in design, testing and troubleshooting of analog and digital systems.
  • Develop detailed electrical schematics and diagrams, design circuitry and create prototypes of new systems.
  • Experience in selection of components.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact with diverse group of scientists and technical staff.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Seven (7) years of experience.
  • Experience in design development of analog/digital systems.
  • Experience in schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Experience in use of FPGA and/or micro controllers.
  • Experience in using ADC / DAC.
  • Experience in simulation software and tools (e.g., PSPICE, LTSPICE, Mathcad).
  • Technical writing skills and use of spreadsheets.
  • Willingness to learn.

Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements:

  • May be required to climb ladders for equipment inspection.
  • May be required to occasionally work off-hours, nights and/or weekends to support mission critical projects.

Other Information:

  • The selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level depending on depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills to the position.
  • This is an onsite position.
  • Some domestic/international travel may be required

    Compensation:

    • Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. This is a multi-level role and the full salary range for this position is $94250 - $144000/ year. You will be placed at the level and salary commensurate with your experience.  Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
