From Foundations to the Future: Applied Mathematics at Brookhaven Lab
Traditionally, Brookhaven National Laboratory’s mathematics research focused on areas relevant to high energy and nuclear physics. Today, Applied Mathematics is a rapidly growing and diversified part of the Computational Science Initiative, spanning familiar areas, such as accelerator physics, to new mathematical applications in areas of national importance, including sustainable energy and climate. The Applied Mathematics group is looking for researchers who like to work in teams to solve complex problems using creative solutions.

Recently, Brookhaven’s AEOLUS team has focused on applying optimal design techniques to problems in materials science and additive manufacturing.
