Web Applications Development Manager

Organizational Overview

The mission of the Information Technology Division is to provide expertise in computing hardware and software support, as well as telecommunications services for the entire Laboratory. Investigates, recommends, and automates process improvements to business systems within the Lab community. Oversees library, publications, and records management.

Position Description

The Information Technology division has an opening for a Web Applications Development Group Manager. The manager will oversee the development of web-based applications. These applications are used throughout the Laboratory in areas such as, Human Resources, Environment Safety and Health, Scientific Areas, Security, Project Management, and Quality Assurance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsibilities will include assigning work and overseeing the design, development, and maintenance of internal and external web applications.
  • Manage application developers to ensure the sites are built as described by the business requirements. Implement standard development practices for the entire software development life cycle. This includes supervising code development to confirm that the latest security tools and techniques are being applied. Ensure the applications are developed in a timely manner adhering to the defined schedule.
  • This position requires a creative individual with excellent problem solving and communication skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and strict deadlines.
  • Some additional user support and administration tasks will also be required.

Position Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience in computer science or a related field. Advanced degree highly desired.
  • Minimum (10+) ten plus years of relevant experience.
  • Candidates must possess a background in the managing development and deployment of secure enterprise applications using ASP.NET (C# or VB.NET – ability to work in both preferred), jQuery, and SQL, and experience with Oracle and PL/SQL and/or SQL Server.
  • Must have experience with the following ASP.NET MVC, ASP.NET Core, Entity Framework, IIS, Git and GitHub.
  • A detailed understanding of relational and object-oriented data modeling concepts and techniques is mandatory.
  • Must be proficient with Windows desktop and server operating systems and possess a firm understanding of basic networking principles.
  • Candidates must display excellent written and oral communication skills and should have experience working with customers to gather requirements as well as the analysis of business need.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with the following is desirable – SharePoint, Boomi, Power Bi, and ServiceNow
  • Business Analysis Experience
  • Web Services Rest and Soap

  • After hours availability, troubleshooting, and support may be required.
