Job Summary:  The National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II) at Brookhaven National Laboratory seeks a qualified postdoc to support operation of the Electron Spectro Microscopy (ESM) Beamline. The ESM beamline is a world-leading ARPES facility with high-energy and high-spatial resolution. The selected candidate will provide user support and perform scientific research taking advantage of the unique capabilities of the ESM beamline. As a member of the Soft X-ray Scattering and Spectroscopy program, the candidate will collaborate with other members and seek research opportunities at other spectroscopy beamlines. 

Key Responsibilites: Responsibilities include carrying out scientific research utilizing the unique beamline capabilities, developing advanced spectromicroscopy techniques or methods, and providing users with the support and capabilities needed to complete high-impact experiments.     



Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Ph. D. in experimental physics, materials science or related field

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills

  • Strong publication record in spectrocopy-based research

  • Good analytical skills

  • The ability to interact effectively in a team environment with a diverse group of scientists and user

    Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

    • Prior experience in ARPES spectroscopy

    • Good knowledge of soft x-ray spectroscopy

    • Programming skills for data reduction
