Brookhaven National Laboratory's Occupational Medicine Clinic is staffed by physicians, a nurse practitioner, nurses, clinical lab and admin support personnel. The Clinic provides comprehensive occupational medicine services to all Laboratory employees, as well as wellness programs to promote the health, well-being, and productivity of its employees, including its public safety officers-- firefighters and police, so that they can perform their vital services safely and effectively.
In this unique assignment, the Registered Dietician will provide individual one-on-one consultations and group presentations and demonstrations to firefighters at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) for improved health and fitness, for weight management, control of blood lipids (cholesterol, triglycerides), control of blood pressure and for prevention and management of pre-diabetes and diabetes. The dietician will work collaboratively with BNL's exercise physiologist to deliver a comprehensive Health-Related Fitness Program for firefighters in accordance with relevant standards and best practices, will track the progress of firefighters in meeting their nutritional and weight management goals, and periodically present summary statistics and trending to the Managers of BNL's Wellness Program.
As required, you may also provide dietary consultations to other BNL employees to help promote their health, as well as presentations and demonstrations to groups of employees.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be a licensed Registered Dietician in the state of New York (“Certified Dietician Nutritionist” (NYS) or "Registered Dietician Nutritionist" ("RDN"-- USA).
- Must have at least 3 years' full-time, contemporary experience with counseling clients with weight management, cardiovascular/hypertension, elevated cholesterol, diabetes, and digestive disorders
- Must have excellent communication skills-- one-on-one counseling and group presentations and demonstrations.
- Must have the ability to provide written reports-- skills with spreadsheets, summary statistics and report writing.
- Prior work with public safety officers (military, fire, police) or other employee groups/work in an employment setting
