The Nuclear Theory Group has active programs focused on studies of strongly interacting matter under extreme conditions, quark-gluon structure of hadrons and application of quantum computing in nuclear physics. The active permanent staff members are Yoshitaka Hatta, Dima Kharzeev, Yacine Mehtar-Tani, Swagato Mukherjee, Peter Petreczky, Rob Pisarski, Bjoern Schenke and Raju Venugopalan (Group Leader).
The Nuclear Theory Group will have two post-doctoral positions to work on lattice gauge theory and related software development in high energy nuclear physics. The start date for the positions will be on or around October 1, 2020.
The successful candidates will work under the direction of Raju Venugopalan, Group Leader of the Nuclear Theory Group in the BNL Physics Department. A review of the applicants will start on December 10, 2019 and continue until the positions are filled.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidates will undertake lattice QCD calculations pertaining to strongly interacting matter under extreme conditions and quark-gluon structure of hadrons, and carry out related software developments targeting next-generation supercomputers.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ph.D. degree in theoretical nuclear or elementary particle physics.
- Experience in lattice Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD)
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of hot-dense lattice QCD and/or lattice QCD calculations of quark-gluon structures of hadrons.
- Experience software developments for lattice QCD.

- Foreign and domestic travel.
- The candidate chosen will be hired for a term of two years.
