Brookhaven National Laboratory's Occupational Medicine Clinic is staffed by physicians, a nurse practitioner, nurses, clinical lab and admin support personnel. The Clinic provides comprehensive occupational medicine services to all Laboratory employees, as well as wellness programs to promote the health, well-being, and productivity of its employees, including its public safety officers-- firefighters and police, so that they can perform their vital services safely and effectively.
The OMC has a an exciting opportunity for a Phelobotomist/Lab Tech to work with a diverse and interntional population of employees, guests, users, and business partners. As a member of the OMC clinical staff,
- Will perform phlebotomist duties under general supervision
- Inventory control of laboratory equipment/supplies and data input/analysis using OMC’s electronic health record system
- Will conduct CLIA waived medical laboratory testing
- Will be trained to perform EKGs, and vision and hearing tests for physical exams; willingness to learn various computer applications necessary.
Must execute other laboratory procedures; select proper test codes, label tubes correctly with patient names and dates, decide best method for blood draw, handle, and centrifuge and package specimens.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Requires phlebotomist certification.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience drawing blood and executing other laboratory procedures.
- Must possess proficiency with laboratory procedures, which may include operation and maintenance of facilities.
- Must be professional, courteous and demonstrate superior patience and interpersonal communication skills
- Must be a team player.
- Must be willing to learn various computer applications as required.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- "Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist" or “COHC”
In order to be considered for the Sr. Lab Technician CW-3 position, you must have 2-3 years of contemporary experience with EKG’s, vision testing and audiometry (hearing tests).
Must be available to work 8/hrs per week as scheduled (Tue & Fri 8AM-12PM) and on-call as needed.
