Job ID JR101232 Date posted 06/18/2024The Fabrication Services Group is a full-service prototype shop with production capabilities for the scientific community throughout the laboratory. Our facilities include machining, wire EDM, water jet cutting, orbital welding, welding, sheet metal, precision measurement, 3D printing, maintenance metal working, cleaning for UHV applications, and our newest addition Computed Radiography. Our capabilities include working on ultra-miniature parts to 20 ton assemblies. Our capability and range of services we provide is largely due to our highly diversified and experienced work force. Partnering with outside contractors enables Fabrication Services to be more flexible in the capabilities it offers to its stakeholders.
Working within established quality control protocols and reporting to the Manager, Fabrication Services:
Performs all mechanical inspections for welding, sheet metal and machining and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), including Radiography in the shop and in the field.
Responsible for in-process and final acceptance inspections including fabrication of parts and equipment manufactured by Fabrication Services or outside vendors for customers.
Writes inspection reports and maintains inspection logs.
Confirms work orders with customers with respect to fabrication requirements, completion dates, and disposition of unacceptable items.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Requires the equivalence of a technical institute or associate’s degree in a related scientific or technical field plus 6 years of relevant work experience.
Fully knowledgeable of Geometric Tolerancing terminology.
Must be proficient with computer skills.
Must maintain required certifications in Computed Radiography, Visual, Ultrasonic Testing, and Liquid Dye Penetrant and Magnetic Particle and related inspection techniques in accordance with SNT-TC-1A and BNL procedures.
Vacuum leak checking and hydrostatic testingy.
Good communication skills.
Familiarity with safe working practice.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) experience with solid modeling capability.
Experience with CAD programs i.e., Autocad.
Welding inspection CWI experience as well as understanding welding terminology.
Environmental, Health, and Safety Considerations (related to inspection responsibilities):
Must be able to climb ladders.
Requires physical coordination and balance to inspect areas within confined spaces and where access is limited.
Routine lifting of equipment and components 30 pounds or lighter.
Will work around static magnetic fields.
Other Information:
Driver’s license required.
Possible travel to vendor sites and training venues.

Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
