Organizational Overview
Scientists in Brookhaven’s Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Science Division (CMPMSD) study basic, theoretical and applied aspects of materials, their utilization, and their electronic, physical, mechanical, and chemical properties in relation to their structure.
Position Description
The CMPMSD at Brookhaven National Laboratory seeks applicants for a tenure track Assistant Scientist position with the goal of establishing a new effort in the area of Quantum Information Science, involving the development, understanding, and characterization of quantum materials for the next generation of quantum information science and technology. The CMPMSD seeks an individual with a proven track record of research achievement capable of leading a new effort that complements existing research programs within the department. We are especially interested in candidates who, through their research, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the research effort of CMPMSD. Applicants must hold a PhD. in Physics, Materials science, or a related discipline.
Position Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop a new research effort with impact in quantum information science and technology, with the aim of gaining longer-term funding from the US Department of Energy
- Collaborate effectively to further the department’s goals in quantum materials and quantum information
Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics, Materials Science, or related discipline
- Solid track record in disseminating research in journal publications and talks at conferences
- Strong research background in quantum information or quantum materials
- Demonstrated experience in quantum materials’ design, synthesis, or characterization (experimental or theoretical)
- Knowledge of potential applications of their research in quantum information science
Other Information:
- Occasional travel for attending conferences and presenting research papers both nationally and internationally
